Y have a Code of Conduct?
The YWCA Club wants everyone to enjoy the game of hockey. Sometimes people behave in ways that make that hard, if not impossible. This Code sets out the standards of behaviour we expect of all YWCA club members, when they are playing, practicing, meeting, fundraising or doing anything else under the club’s name. It also sets out the complaints process and penalties. This code is consistent with that of the Wellington Hockey Association.
Who is a member?
The term ‘members’ in this code refers to players, coaches, managers, and committee members of the YWCA Hockey club.
What conduct is expected from members?
Members are expected to represent the club in a way that upholds the good name of the club and the sport of hockey and does not bring either into disrepute.
Actions that are deemed to be those that bring the club or sport into disrepute are:
Swearing and/or verbally abusing players, coaches, managers, spectators or match officials
Striking, or attempting to strike players, coaches, managers, spectators or match officials
Unsporting behavior
Knowingly breaching the rules of the Wellington Hockey Association
Accruing 12 points under the Wellington Hockey Association card system in one season
Who can make a complaint about the behavior of a club member?
Anyone can make a complaint to the YWCA Hockey Club Committee.
Who do you make a complaint to?
A complaint should be made to the YWCA Committee through the Club Captains, or the Secretary, unless that person is the subject of the complaint in which case the complaint may be made to any other member of the committee.
What happens when a complaint is made?
The following process will be used:
The member involved will be advised of the complaint and offered an opportunity to provide information about the incident leading to the complaint.
The YWCA Committee will meet within a week of the complaint being laid. The member may be asked to attend this meeting.
The committee will determine if this code has been breached, and if so, what penalty, if any, will be imposed.
The member and the complainant will be advised of the disciplinary committee’s decision.
The committee’s decision will be final.
What penalties can be imposed?
One or more of the following
Penalties may be imposed:
Suspension of up to 2 games
A fine of up to $50
Expulsion from the club, in accordance with clause 12 of the constitution
Any penalty imposed is over and above any penalties imposed by the Wellington Hockey Association for the same event.
Failure to pay any fine will result in the member being declared un-financial.
